PRECIS OF THIS NATIVE LANDS PROTECTION AND ADMINISTRATION BILL, WITH-AMENDMENTS SUG- GESTED BY THE, TEKOTAHITANGA, OB MAOBI MEET- ING, HELD AT PAPAWAI, GREYTOWN NORTH, DUR- ING THE MONTHS OF MAY AND JUNE, 1898.

Whereas in ihe Diamond Jubilee year of Her Majesty Queen Victoria certain members of the Native race forwarded a petition ask- ing Her Majesty to stop the sale of Native hand: And whereas it is for the benefit of both races that this should be given effect te, por the reason that the land is required for the Maori owners; and whereas it is necessary that the law in reference to reserving and Administrating Native lands, for conferring rehe jurisdiction of the Native Land Court upon Boards to be appointed thereunder, for promoting the welfare of the Maori people, for instructing them in utilising and settling upon their lands, and for the purpose of encouraging the better attendance and in- struction of their children at schools should be consolidated.
