Acknowledgments

The first regional seminar on financial systems for rural development was held in Vientiane from October 30 to November 1, 1995.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Governor of the Bank of the Lao People's Democratic Republic for his warm welcome, and through him, all those in charge of this institution as well as the members of the seminar's organizing committee.

We were also very grateful for the participation of the foreign delegations from Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar.

Thanks also go to the numerous Lao participants, representing the Bank for Agricultural Promotion, the commercial banks and the Ministries concerned, as well as the international organizations, notably the NGOs working in Laos who were ready and willing to help us prepare this seminar.

Nathalie Leserre organized the seminar and put together the proceedings. Dominique Gentil, Pierre Daubert and Yves Peutot were in charge of leading the seminar.

Lastly, the seminar itself was financed by the French Government and the publication of the proceedings by the Royal Dutch Embassy.
