Workshop Overview

Sessions

Purpose

1. Welcome and Setting the Stage

· Sets the tone of the workshop; provides an overview of workshop objectives, and helps participants get acquainted

2. Defining Social Mobilization

· Introduces social mobilization and its components, community mobilization, advocacy, behavior change communication, and social marketing

3. Introduction to Coalitions

· Introduces the dynamics, advantages, and challenges of working in groups toward a common goal

4. Defining the Issue

· Provides guidelines for identifying a reproductive health issue for social mobilization using data in a case study

5. Coalition Building

· Provides ideas and guidelines for identifying partners and maintaining a coalition for a reproductive health movement

6. Mobilizing for Equity: Gender and Reproductive Health Considerations

· Introduces the concepts of practical gender needs, strategic gender interests, and the basics of gender analysis in reproductive health programs

7. Developing a Plan of Action for Social Mobilization Coalitions

· Introduces guidelines and examples for setting goals and objectives for social mobilization for reproductive health

8. Enabling Change Through Understanding the Audience and Environment

· Introduces the behavior change communication model as a way of analyzing stakeholder perspective and promoting an enabling environment for behavior change

9. Developing and Delivering the Message

· Provides guidelines for developing consistent messages and effective delivery of policy advocacy messages

10. Measuring Results of Social Mobilization

· Provides guidelines for choosing monitoring indicators for social mobilization campaigns and introduces the necessity of documenting all aspects of a campaign

11. Putting the Components Together for a Social Mobilization Campaign

· Gives participants an opportunity to design a social mobilization campaign by identifying and sequencing components and activities

12. Closing

· An opportunity for reflection, looking forward, and saying goodbye
