Codex committee on methods of analysis and sampling

The Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling held its nineteenth session in Budapest, Hungary from 21 to 25 March 1994. The committee recommended the adoption of five general methods of analysis for contaminants through the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 1995. The committee also recommended the adoption of the Revised protocol for the design, conduct and interpretation of collaborative studies and the Harmonized protocol for the quality control of analytical data.

Sampling plans for aflatoxin analysis in peanuts and corn (FAO Food and Nutrition Paper No. 55,1993), the report of an FAO technical consultation, is to be considered by the Codex Committee on Cereals, Pulses and Legumes. A paper entitled Development of objective criteria for assessing the competence of testing laboratories involved in the import and export control of foods is being circulated for government comment. The committee endorsed several recommendations concerning the development of new work on the harmonization of analytical terminology and on uniform criteria for the reporting of test results.

The twentieth session of the Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling is tentatively scheduled to be held in Budapest in the first week of November 1995.
