Indigenous knowledge and new information technologies Suva/Fiji
A special symposium on "Women, Science and Development: From indigenous Knowledge to New Information Technologies" is being organized under the auspices of the Pacific Science Association and the Gender, Science and Development Programme of the International Federation of Institutes for Advanced Studies. The symposium will be part of the VlIl Pacific Science Association Inter-Congress from July 13 to 19, 1997, at the University of the South Pacific at Suva, Fiji.
The topic has evolved from successful sessions on Women and Development (Honolulu 1991) and Human Resources for the Future: Women and Young Scientists in Asian and Pacific Science (Peking 1995). It will also build on the recommendations of the Gender Working Group of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development and highlight the SPACHE ECOWOMAN and the WAINIMATE traditional medicine projects. Sessions will be organized around two major themes: Women, science and indigenous knowledge and "Women, science and new information technologies".
