For each collection, you need to set

authenticate collection
auth_groups groupname

For each collection, use a different groupname, eg the collection shortname.
Then when adding a user, you need to set the specific collection groups
in the groups field.

eg if you have two collection, demo and photos, you can use those names
as group names.
then user A might have groups demo,photos - access to both collections.
But user B might have groups demo - only access to demo coll.
