John was right about this -- it is just a Windows problem. It seems to be the
case that if you've got a space in your Word file path then wv won't convert
image links into relative paths correctly, and it all goes downhill from

We're using an old version of wv so the best long term solution is for us to
upgrade the version of wv included with Greenstone (and hope the bug has been
fixed). Until then, however, I've just added a small hack into HTMLPlug which
checks for the problem image references and fixes them up.

You can get the updated from (unzip it
into your gsdlperllibplugins folder).
