Thanks -- I'll give my ISP a try -- though they're German and I'm not, so I might have a problem communicating!
Another thought -- is there a list somewhere of ISPs that already offer to host Greenstone collections -- for a fee of course? If I have to upload the full Greenstone package myself, it will take up a big chunk of server space that I will have to pay for.
Best wishes

Hi Paul,

This is definitely not a stupid question; in fact, I'm sure many other Greenstone users would want to know this information.

To start with, you need to copy the necessary Greenstone files onto your website server, as you know. If you aren't making any changes to the source code then you don't need to copy the "src" directory (or the "gli" directory, if you've got it), but I think to be safe you should copy everything else.

Then, you need to talk nicely to your ISP and get them to set up their webserver to allow the Greenstone library program to be run as a CGI program (you won't have the privileges to do this yourself). This is where Chapter 4 of the Installer's Guide applies - you should refer the staff of your ISP to this chapter and they'll know what to do.

Good luck, and make sure you send us the link to your site when you've got it running!

Probably a stupid question, but here goes...I'd like to make my Greenstone collection (Greenstone 2.40, Windows XP) available via my website. I have ftp access to my site, which is hosted by a commercial Internet service provider. How do I get Greenstone running on the site, and what files do I have to upload?Does Chapter 4, Setting up th Webserver, in the Installer's Guide apply? Thanks for any pointers.Best wishesPaul Paul Mundy
