I've had a look into this and the GLI applet does remember my settings
-- except for the "Library URL" and "Greenstone gliserver URL" values
(Preferences -> Connection), which are set explicitly in the code. Users
should not be able to change these values, since it would allow users to
use an applet on one site to build collections on another.

Unfortunately, the gliserver URL is set incorrectly: the ".pl" extension
is missing. This is a bug in Greenstone 2.70.

I have fixed the gliserver URL value and disabled editing the "Library
URL" and "Greenstone gliserver URL" values (for the applet only). You
can download a new version of GLI.jar from, then
rerun steps 2, 3 and 4 of the applet instructions at

Thanks for reporting this bug,

All the best,
