Recompilation of the code wont affect your collections at all.
As for the gimp stuff, I think that if you just replace the perl gimp scripts with the updated versions, you can create the images. However, I would recommend downloading the latest version of greenstone if possible. a lot of improvements have been made to the code since 2.38.
Theoretically, you should be able to uninstall greenstone 2.38, and install the new version (2.40) in the same place and all your collections should work. I would probably copy all the collections to somewhere else before doing this though, just in case (I dont trust computers). if you get a binary distribution of greenstone it wont require recompilation, however, the phrasesearch stuff that I sent you has not been
incorporated into a release yet, so you will need to recompile to get that.
If you really dont want to get the new version, I could send you the updated gimp scripts.

> May I ask another related question? I want to install GIMP and perl-gimp module so that I can use Greenstone to generate images for new icons. My Greenstone version is 2.38. I found from "greenstone archives" that this version need to be updated in order to support the functon of image creation. But how is the "update"? Do I need to reinstall and (or?) recompile the Greenstone? Again, will it distroy the present collections?
> Or is there any possibility that I can get the image creation function without influnce my collections on it? If the "update" is only changes with perl scripts, I think it doesn't need recompilation. If I am right?
