Hi Girija

The best way to back up a collection is to copy the whole thing to your
backup machine. The collection can be found in the gsdl/collect
directory and its directory name will be the name in brackets on the GLI
title bar (eg Greenstone Librarian Interface Mode: Librarian Collection:
Greenstone demo collection (demo) )
In this case the folder name is demo. The folder name also appears on
the General page of the Design Pane, in the "Collection folder" box.

Inside the collection folder there will be several directories:
import: the source documents and metadata
archives: temporary files for building
metadata: info about the metadata sets and value trees
etc: collection configuration information
index: the built collection

The easiest thing to do would be to save the whole collection's
directory. If you want to reduce space, you don't need to save the
archives or building directories.

To use this collection on another computer, just copy the whole folder
into the collect directory of the new greenstone installation. Assuming
they have the same endian-ness the collection will work without

Hope this helps,
Katherine Don
