1. Use wget (hopefully you have this) to download Greenstone:

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/greenstone/gsdl-2.72-unix.tar.gz

2. Unpack the zipped tarball:

tar xzf gsdl-2.72-unix.tar.gz

3. Change to the Unix directory:

cd gsdl-2.72-unix/Unix

4. Run the installation script:

./Install.sh

5. Follow the instructions in the installation script. You can quit the installation at any time if you "panic" by pressing Control-C. Even if you get all the way through the installation, you can always run the Uninstall.sh script or delete the entire directory in which Greenstone install into.

I am a newbie to Greenstone and I'm trying to download the best (and
simplest) version for the beginning of an institutional repository at
Washburn University. I'm having problems downloading version 2.72 on a
RedHat Linux machine - unknown version of RedHat. I have been through the
Installer's Guide, but having much luck. I have not checked the Greenstonewiki for installation problems. I thought I would start with the listserv.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
