I am pleased to inform you that Greenstone has been nominated for a
2008 Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration (MATC) award. There
are two types of award: $50,000 to recognize important organizational
contributions to open source projects which currently or potentially
provide significant benefits to at least one traditional Mellon
constituency (higher education, especially the arts and humanities;
libraries; museums; arts organizations; and nature conservation) or
$100,000 to recognize highly significant contributions to open source
projects offering larger benefits to more or larger constituencies.

The award committee will decide on the winners in mid-September, and
the Mellon Foundation will then ask the recipients to develop plans
for the use of the award to further the organization?s engagement
with open source development.

The public is invited to submit comments on the nominations, which
will be taken into account by the award committee. An MATC award
would provide an exceptional recognition and boost for Greenstone
development, dissemination and user support. Greenstone users and
developers are therefore encouraged to submit comments illustrating
how Greenstone has enabled their organizations to develop public
service digital library applications and/or how the Greenstone team/
network has supported users and collaborative software development.

The awards are described on the MATC website

The Greenstone nomination can be viewed and commented on at

(you will be prompted to register before your comment can be submitted).

Should we win an award, we would consult with you again on how it
should most effectively be used to serve the Greenstone community of
developers and users.
