Subject [greenstone-devel] Solaris error configuring IsisGdl

I'm trying to build Greenstone 2.53 on Solaris 8 (SPARC). I have
gcc 3.3.2, gdbm 1.8.3 and gmake 3.80.

Running Install.sh proceeds nicely until this:

> Configuring IsisGdl (CDS/ISIS database reader)
> checking for g++... g++
> checking for C++ compiler default output... a.out
> checking whether the C++ compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C++ compiled programs.
> If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.
> configure: error: /bin/bash './configure' failed for packages
> compiling ...

Checking in gsdl/packages/isis-gdl/config.log, I see this:

> configure:1053: checking whether the C++ compiler works
> configure:1059: ./a.out
> ld.so.1: ./a.out: fatal: libstdc++.so.5: open failed: No such
file or directory
> Killed

Now, libstdc++.so.5 is definitely in /usr/local/lib, so ... I'm
mystified. All the other packages went thru configure OK,
including yaz, so I can't see why this would be different.

Note that this is still configuring -- haven't even got to the
make stage yet!

I see in the archives there's mention of CDS/ISIS problems, with
an earlier version, for which modified files were provides.
These are no longer available, so I assume they've been
incorporated into the latest version.

Anyone out there managed to build this thing on Solaris? Any
clues welcome.

[Previously sent to -users, but maybe the -devel list is a
better place for this?]
