Hi Greg

The two projects are separate but interlinked. The collection building
code is the same for both systems, just the runtime library code is
different. The Java version (Greenstone 3) is where our development
focus lies, however we will continue to support and bug fix the original
C++ version (greenstone 2). Any developments in collection building will
benefit both systems.
We intend to release new versions of both systems for a while. I guess
eventually we hope to switch to Greenstone 3. But currently Greenstone 2
is more stable.

We don;t really have a roadmap for either system. We have a bug (and
enhancement) tracking system, which you can see at trac.greenstone.org.
This gives some idea of things that we will be working on. Also, we have
a research contract to do multimedia development for greenstone 3.
However, I am not sure if the project milestones are anywhere on line. I
guess we should be entering them into our trac system. I'll suggest that
when I get back to work (am currently on sick leave).

I hope this was a bit helpful
