This ILO Department has the responsibility for assisting and advising ILO constituents on employment and training policies and programmes; the situation and trends in employment in the world; the effects on employment and social justice of economic trade, investment and related phenomena; the analysis and development of policies to promote: (i) full, productive and freely chosen employment; (ii) the functioning of the labour market; (iii) the employability of workers by adapting and raising the level of their skills; (iv) the protection and access to employment of specific groups such as women, youth, migrant, and disabled workers.
In addition, the Department undertakes the analytical work required for technical relations with the Bretton Woods institutions, the OECD, the WTO and other international organizations on global economic issues, international and national strategies for employment, structural adjustment, labour market and training policies.
