FAO Specification 441/TC/S/P (1997)
1. DESCRIPTION
The material shall consist of technical metsulfuron methyl, homogeneous and free from added modifying agents, and shall be a crystalline solid with a sweet ester-like odour. The colour of the material is off-white to beige.
2. ACTIVE INGREDIENT
2.1 Identity Test (Note 1)An identity test is required if the identity of the active ingredient is in doubt (e.g. HPLC or IR spectrum).
2.2 Metsulfuron methyl (5441/TC/M/3, CIPAC H, to be published) (Note 1)
The metsulfuron methyl content shall be declared (not less than 960 g/kg) and when determined, the content obtained shall not differ from the declared by more than ± 25 g/kg.
3. IMPURITIES
3.1 Water (MT 30.1, CIPAC F, p. 91)Maximum: 3.0 g/kg.
3.2 Material insoluble in acetone (MT 27, CIPAC F, p. 88)
Maximum: 10 g/kg.
4. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
4.1 Melting point (MT 2, CIPAC F, p. 5)Melting point range: 156-158°C.
