This chapter describes the sample of subjects included in the
follow-up study and the methods used to assess three sets of variables: the
social and economic background of the families, the schooling histories of the
subjects within the formal educational system of the villages, and the
subjects' performance on a battery of psychoeducational and
information-processing tests in adolescence. 5
