Blood cells

Class: 3, 6

Lesson: Le sang

Rationale: Show red blood cells.

Materials:

Peace Corps malaria slide kit
microscope
Optional: methylene blue (See "Preparation of methylene blue" p. 34.)

Procedure:

1. Make a malaria slide.
2. Red blood cells can be adequately seen at 400x but higher magnifications are better.

Optional: Staining with methylene blue

3. Cover blood slide with methylene blue.
4. Wait for 2 minutes.
5. Rinse with water and let dry.
6. Nuclear granules will stain blue.
