For decades Tanzania has been one of the major recipients of aid from the Scandinavian countries. Norway, through NORAD, has taken the forefront role in the aid donation.

Scholars, economists and other interested parties have been asking themselves a number of questions: How has Norwegian aid into Tanzania helped to mobilize entrepreneurial capacity? To what degree has the aid input increased the professional competence and the autonomy of the aid receiving projects, organisations and public institutions in Tanzania? Has Norwegian aid helped to create any sustainability?

Aid and Entrepreneurship in Tanzania, a well researched book, attempts to investigate all those questions by not only looking at aid and entrepreneurship but also surveying the social interactions between Norwegians and Tanzanians.

This book is a must reader for economists, planners, social scientists and students of institutions of higher learning.

THORVALD GRAN is a Professor in the Department of Administration and Organisation Theory, University of Bergen. He has had a teaching stint at the Institute of Development Management, Mzumbe, Tanzania. Gran has also had the opportunity to do research on NORAD's assisted projects and organisations.
