4. How to use the source book
This Source Book is a reference document. It is intended to
present a comprehensive overview of the alternative technologies for freshwater
augmentation, water quality improvement, wastewater treatment and reuse, and
water conservation most commonly used in Latin America and the Caribbean. The
technologies focus on the use of freshwater for human and animal consumption,
agriculture, and industrial use, especially in arid and semi-arid areas.
For additional information on specific technologies, resource
people and relevant books and publications are included in the bibliography at
the end of each section. The resource people listed work with the various
technologies and have expressed a willingness to cooperate in their
dissemination and implementation. In addition, further details about the
technologies may be obtained from the Unit of Sustainable Development and
Environment of the Organization of American States, 1889 F Street, N.W., 3rd.
