Sexual Harassment

Within the CARICOM Caribbean, only the Bahamas has legislation prohibiting sexual harassment in the workplace. The Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of the Bahamas makes it a criminal offence punishable by a fine of $5000 and/or imprisonment for a maximum of two years. The offence applies to the solicitation of sexual favours by a prospective employer, employer or co-worker by the promise or the threat of any favour, benefit, advantage or disadvantage and when advantages are sought by the promise of sexual favours. Unfortunately there is no remedy, such as reinstatement, for those unfairly dismissed as a result of resistance to sexual harassment.
