Blood circulation

Lesson: L'appareil circulatoire

Rationale: Dramatization of how the blood circulates.

Materials:

8 students

8-10 oxyg cards (~3x5 in)
8-10 gaz carbonique cards (~3x5 in)

Procedure:

1. Select 8 students to be the body parts listed above. Arrange the students such that their position in the classroom corresponds anatomically with the configuration of the human body.

2. Give each body part their sign.

3. Give all the oxyg cards to the poumons.

4. Give one gaz carbonique card to each of the other body parts.

5. Start with the globule rouge in the poumons.

6. Ask the students what happens in the poumons? Globule rouge exchanges the gaz carbonique for oxyg. Where does the globule rouge go? To the coeur.
After the coeur? Jambe. What happens next? The globule rouge gives the jambe oxyg and accepts the gaz carbonique. Where does the globule rouge go now? To the coeur. And then? To the poumons. What happens in the poumons? etc.

7. After each question, the globule rouge moves around the room as directed by the class. Each time there is an exchange, the body parts and the globule rouge exchange the oxyg and gaz carbonique cards.

8. Continue the exercise until all the body parts are oxygenated. Change the globule rouge several times to include more students in the demonstration.
