GUIDELINES FOR THE INSTRUCTOR

This training module has been prepared as a specific module for a training course on community participation in the setting up of community credit mechanisms. The module provides a framework for the training, but the trainer decides what materials to take from this document to give to the participants for reading and guidance. It is also the responsibility of the trainer to adjust the course to local conditions.

Target group

Members of the community and project staff involved in community participation.

Number of participants

10-20 persons.

Duration

Two or three days.

Equipment

Blackboard or newsprint.

Overhead projector will be useful, when charts can be reproduced on transparencies.

Preparation

This training module is intended to be used by an experienced trainer working with a group of people who are interested in forming their own credit mechanism.

In order to link the training to the situation in which the participants are or will be working, the trainer should prepare a detailed background paper before the start of the training session. The paper should provide data on existing credit mechanisms, credit unions or co-operative societies relevant to the participants. It should document local experiences with these credit mechanisms and their relevance for human settlement projects.

A day before the session starts, the trainer should distribute the background and course papers to the course participants, so that they have the opportunity to read them.

Training

The trainer and the course participants will sessions work together through the course papers and discuss the questions arising from the course material.

Evaluation

The course participants and the trainer will evaluate the training sessions.
