OBJECTIVES
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
1. List the structures and organs found in the mouth and outline their functions.2. Differentiate between milk and permanent teeth, and outline the nutritional elements required for their healthy development and maintenance.
3. Draw and describe the structure of a tooth and name its parts.
4. Explain the causes and effects of tooth decay.
5. Give the characteristics of healthy gums and describe the symptoms of affected gums.
6. Demonstrate the daily practices that lead to healthy gums and teeth.
7. Give an account of other mouth problems and their remedies.
8. Explain how cultural beliefs and practices concerned with the mouth arose and how they affect oral health.
