The above chart provides a summary of characteristics of a variety of media. The black dots indicate that the factor is characteristic of that particular medium, 8 blank indicates that it is not characteristic, and a dash indicates that the factor is not applicable. There are exceptions to some of the generalizations that are made on the chart. For example, teachers might prepare either 8 or 16 millimeter films, but the teacher would have to have some specialized production competencies. However, in general the factors checked hold true and can serve as a guide to the selection and use of media for specific purposes.
