|The Community Builders: A Practical Guide where People Matter (GTZ, 1989)|
The author Iliff Simey was an architect in Britain before going to
Lesotho in 1977. There he worked as a volunteer in a housing co-operative. He
found his European experience quite inappropriate to the needs of the people,
who re-trained him as a Community Builder. He went on to help establish a
children's village, and then worked in rural health care for four years.
The people of the story are illustrated by Julia Whitelaw, a
community based artist working in Liverpool, Great Britain.
