Economic assessment

1. Environmental damage costs to food resources, human health, recreation, ecosystem functioning and existence values were considered in economic terms.

2. No significant costs were identified in the study areas. However, costs depend upon the scale and place of treatment. Potentially, ground-spraying with DDT may affect the amenity value of tourist areas with major wildlife concentrations, such as national parks. The impact on the quantity and quality of tourist experiences in north-west Zimbabwe, though, is likely to be negligible.
