3.9 Impacts on other existing or planned activities

Several types of activity in the immediate environment surrounding an agricultural measure may harm the project or reduce the benefits from it, such as e.g. pollution-generating industry or transport. Changes in the use of land involving clearances for housing purposes, industry, transport systems, etc. may reduce the areas available for cultivation. The project should assess already existing environmental load and plans for land use before going ahead.

Large agricultural projects may generate development in a number of other sectors. In order to build up an overview of any such possible indirect future effects, consultation of other relevant booklets on environmental impact assessment in this series is recommended.
