The following text presents a summary of results from a comparative policy review, the 'Thematic Review of the transition from initial education to working life'. The review, conducted between 1996 and 1998 under the auspices of the OECD's Education Committee, involved 14 OECD countries: Australia; Austria; Canada; the Czech Republic; Denmark; Finland; Hungary; Japan; Norway; Portugal; Sweden; Switzerland; the United Kingdom; and the United States.
