February: 2-4/02/1998 Planning meeting on the development of institutional capacity to assist farmers in disaster situations.

February: World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources (WIEWS) launched on Internet via WAICENT platform.

February: West and Central African regional meeting to develop priorities and programs for the implementation of the Global Plan of Action on PGR in Benin.

March: 9-13/03/1998 First International Meeting on the Conservation and Utilization of Genetic Resources of Mushrooms for Food and Agriculture & Second Meeting of the Board of Coordinators of the FAO Global Network on Mushrooms, Bordeaux, France.

April: Latin American and Caribbean regional meeting to develop priorities and programs for the implementation of the Global Plan of Action on PGR in Colombia.

May: East and Southern African regional meeting to develop priorities and programs for the implementation of the Global Plan of Action on PGR in Botswana.

June: Technical meeting on the development of institutional capacity to assist farmers in disaster situations. FAO, Rome.

July: Technical meeting for the establishment of the information exchange network on PGR in the framework of WIEWS in Latin America. Colombia.

August: Technical meeting for the establishment of the information exchange network on PGR in the framework of WIEWS for North Africa and West Asia region in Morocco.

October: Regional meeting on seed policies and programmes for Africa (date and place to be confirmed).

December: FAO/IFAD/IPGRI Steering Committee meeting of the project on Development of Strategies for in situ Conservation and Utilization of PGR in Desert-prone Areas of Africa, Rome.

December: Meeting of the Board of Coordinators of the FAO Global Network on Citrus Germplasm Conservation (date and place to be confirmed).
