
THE INVESTMENT CENTRE (IC),
a Division of FAO's
Technical Cooperation Department,
helps developing
countries mobilise investments for agricultural and rural development.
It does this mainly by assisting them in identifying and formulating
viable investment projects in agriculture, including forestry,
fisheries agro-industries and environment, for funding by both
national and multi-lateral financing institutions (partners).
In carrying out its work, the IC has programmes of cooperation
with a wide range of financing institutions lending for agriculture,
including the World Bank, IFAD, the Regional and Sub-Regional
Development Banks, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,
UNCDF and Arab funds. Since its inception, the IC has participated
in the formulation of 1,032 projects approved for financing, involving
total investments of US$ 56.5 billion. Of this, over half is from
external sources, the balance from the recipient countries.
The following is a brief description of the Investment Centre,
its objectives, functions, organisation, staffing and services
it provides.
