Thanks for response. I have answered you below but I fear that I am not
going about this the right way so let me explain my gross methods and ask
for direction in correcting them:

1. We are implementing on a server where we have no command line access,
only web and ftp access.
2. we scan our documents on local PCs and consolidate on one PC.
3. Our librarian defines the library structure (subjects, keywords, etc)
in Organizer on that PC.
4. We then upload files to a 'data' domain on the server mentioned in step 1.
5. We then run collection in the 'greenstone' domain on the server
mentioned in step 1, using http reference to find the files in the 'data'
domain. We have never been able to point to the sources in the same domain
as collector. The choices in Collector on the library web site do not
include files local to the collection process, as far as I can tell.

The way collector seems to work, the directories where greenstone keeps the
collection do not exist until the collection is built, therefore the
Organizer exported files cannot be placed in 'etc' prior to the
build. This is counter-intuitive - I assume there is a basic flaw in the
way I am approaching the whole exercize, not in greenstone, which is about
as high quality as I have seen ( :) )

I am looking to a step-by-step method for gathering files, specifying the
organization (using organizer - our librarian should not have to edit these
files directly) and uploading these to the server, prior to build
process. The mail thing I have not yet found is an exhaustive list of the
files generated for collection and management and there expected
location(s) before, during and after build.

As I mentioned - if this is documented already - just aim me at the right
manual. I do not expect you to work to explain something that already has
a perfectly good explanation.

Yes - this is why the sub.txt file was being catalogued. Sorry - I did not
read the manual.

nothing that points to the file listing being catalogued.

none - the file as exported from Organizer has only three classify stmts.
