You might put your word document perhaps in a public directory (you create) in your collection's main directory
i.e. /<greenstone install dir>/collect/<your collection dir>/public/your_word_document.doc
Then add a link to it on your home page, probably by modifying macros in the home package in your extra.dm file.
adding a link something like <a href="_httpcollection_/public/your_word_document.doc">Your word document</a> by overriding macros in the home package. Refer to <greenstone install dir>/macros/home.dm for the macros I suggest you override in your extra.dm. For example you might override the _content_ macro, in the home macro package.
