I guess now we found a common basis for the discussion :-). I think the header of the mails for the discussion might be misleading. It should probably include something like "dynamic generation of query links from metadata with multiple values" (at least I think that is what Chaitra was trying to implement in her collection)...

To conclude I think that "For" loop statements for handling metadata could be a very nifty feature of greenstone in the future...

For displaying terms with checkboxes at the end of the line it
would surely be the correct way to do, but the evaluation of the
checkbox status of all terms to form the search query (also using
boolean combination "and", "or", "not") from my point of view
cannot be done without a script.

ah, now i got your point: you need javascript to form the query
string - while i only considered output of some content all the
time. yeah, that seems to require javascript, even the standard
query form uses a lot of it (and btw, with javascript disabled the
search doesn't work - contrary to my earlier utterance regarding
limitations when javascript has not been enabled).

so, i think this is quite a whole different story. the actual output
(which i was focusing on) won't require using javascript anymore,
yet the query processing (which was your main concern) still will.
can we agree on that? ;-)
