The reference to greenstonebinwindows does mean greenstone/bin/windows,
just as you suspected. I don't know why the slashes have gone missing,
though.

Though I have not yet exported a Greenstone DVD from either Windows or
Linux, I just downloaded this zip file and had a look in its contents.
It contains a file called README.txt which states:

That last line--"this package is not platform dependent"--seems to imply
that you do indeed have to extract the contents into your installation's
bin/windows folder rather than into bin/linux. Therefore, could you try
it out in that order (that is, try bin/windows first, and if that did
not work try bin/linux) and write back if you had any further
difficulties with this?
