Hi Carl,

We do not have access to a Snow Leopard machine at present, but have
released a Greenstone 3 binary for the Mac OS Leopard. I do not know
whether this works on a Snow Leopard, did it fail in your case?

As an alternative, if you have the Mac compilation tools called Xcode (1
Gb, unfortunately), you could get the source code from svn or from the
Greenstone 3.04 source release (from sourceforge) and then try to
compile it on your Snow Leopard machine.

To get the code from svn, you would first require an svn client
installed on your machine. See http://subversion.tigris.org/
The Greenstone 3 source code on svn is located at

1. If you get it from SVN, then the compilation steps are at
Essentially, if you have SVN installed and Ant 1.7.1 as well, then, you
would run the following in a terminal to compile your source code:

a. $ ant
The above would generate the build.properties file.
You can adjust the port number and host name in this file.

b. $ gs3-setup.sh
The above may have to be done after the next step, if it complains:

c. $ ant prepare
This command will grab additional files needed by Greenstone 3.
Depending on the speed of your connection, this could take time.

d. See step b, in case it actually needs to be done now.

e. $ ant install
This is the actual compilation step. Compilation takes some minutes.

2. If you got the source distribution of Greenstone 3.04 from
sourceforge, then you would only need to do:
a. $ gs3-setup.sh
b. $ ant install
