Hello Henry,

It's probably because they changed the default shell from bash to
dash for running scripts. Dash is fast but isn't 100% compatible with
bash from a scripting point of view. I'm guessing the greenstone
installation script trips up on one of those incompatibilities.
If you open the Greenstone installation script and change (or add)
the top line from:
#!/bin/sh
to
#!/bin/bash
and then try again. I hope this helps!
