Hi Katherine,
Thanks for the info, but I think my problem is that there is no users.gdb (or any other users.* file in /etc). My understanding is that it gets created by the installer if I choose to add an Admin user. But, I did not use the installer - I compiled Greenstone myself.

So, the users.gdb file doesn't exist in /etc, and when I try to login to the administration pages with username=admin and password=admin, it tells me I have entered an incorrect username or password.

I'm not overly concerned about using the Admin pages right now because I have access to the config files, but it would be nice to know how to either set or reset the admin password eventually.

Hi Jay

You can delete Greenstone/etc/users.gdb. This will remove all your user accounts and reset the admin password to admin. Unfortunately I don't think you can retrieve the password any way.

I am trying to figure out how to set/reset/recover a lost (or never set) Admin password in Greenstone 2.83. So far I've had no luck searching for a string in any of the files.

I have been using a self-compiled version of Greenstone, so I never set one with the installer. Any ideas how I can either set or recover the Admin password?

Thank you,
