Subject [greenstone-users] Metadata : which 'values' should be assigned to the attributes of a new metadata set defined via GEMS ?
Hello all,

(I'm running Greenstone 2.70w on W-XP. Sorry for the basic questions, but I've searched in the doc and archives from this list for answers without any luck).

I would like to define a new metadata set, via GEMS, for my collection, but:

1- what should I do to ensure an 'element' corresponds to a 'DC element'?

2- what is the aim of each attribute? Some are obvious from their names (like 'datatype'), some are less (like 'identifier' or 'family');

3- I suspect some attributes' values are determined (like 'datatype', which could get as values, 'text', 'image'... or 'doc', 'txt', 'pdf'...?); where do I find those values?

4- I would be interested to define: a) compulsory elements, b) elements which are automatically defaulted to some values, c) definition of different types of elements (i.e.: date, integer, string, etc.)... is this possible with Greenstone?

Any help on these topic would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
