Recently I posted a question to the Spanish Forum asking about the way to
keep a persistent URL for each one of the documents of our Digital Library.
The problem appeared when we build with Greenstone 2.84 one of our
collections that was built in a previous version of Greenstone: v2.82.

After the collection of pictures was build we noticed that the URL of each
one of the URL of the pictures had changed. For example, the URL of one of
the pictures in Greenstone 2.82 was

http://ibdigital.uib.cat/greenstone/collect/antoniPalou/index/assoc/HASHaaa7
.dir/C01-01.jpg

But the URL of the same picture after the collection was build with
Greenstone 2.84 was:

http://ibdigital.uib.cat/greenstone/collect/antoniPalou/index/assoc/HASHd41e
.dir/C01-01.jpg

As you can see HASHaaa7.dir is changed for HASHd41e.dir

Nicolas Rucks from the Biblioteca Cardini - Fundaci□n Instituto Leloir gave
to me the advice of using the following option:

import.pl -OIDtype assigned -OIDmetadata dc.Identifier (where each document
should have an identifier that is unique)

This option worked well and we build again the same collection with
Greenstone 2.82 and 2.84 and the URLs for each document was the same.

I would like to ask if we build all our collections using this method this
will guarantee that the URLs of all the documents will be persistent with
independence of the future versions of Greenstone. I think this is a very
important matter because many local institutions are creating databases
indexing our documents using as a reference the URL of each document, so if
the URL is changed then their job is lost. We have alse seen that Google is
indexing very accurately our documents, so we would like to guarantee that
each one of them can keep a constant URL.
