Hi

The conversion to PDF happens using an external program: pdftohtml. This
is what determines how each page of the output looks - Greenstone has no
control over this.

To get the PDF documents to look like Word documents with a table of
contents rather than next and previous arrows, please edit
greenstone/perllib/plugins/PDFPlug.pm

Near the end of the file is a line like:
$doc_obj->set_utf8_metadata_element ($cursection, "gsdlthistype", "Paged");

Change "Paged" to "Hierarchy"
This controls how Greenstone displays the document.
You will need to rebuild the collection.

Regards,
Katherine
