Thanks Katherine,

Yes Vladmir's suggestions have helped me greatly. That email that came through from me was a actually one I sent a while ago but has just been approved by the moderator.

You mention the two types of .item files. For the simple .item file which just specifies top level metadata, can you still use the metadata tags that Vladmir suggested eg.
<Metadata name="dc.Title">Item Title</Metadata>

Or must it only use simple tags such as William suggested eg. <Title> Title of document.

Since I have already completed a whole bunch of simple .item files, with a list of the pages, I was hoping to stay in this format. Though I would like to specify that my top level metadata is Dublin core.

Many thanks,
Michael.
