Hi Azael,
Yes, you're right, the documentation on this is perhaps not as good
as it could be. I guess it assumes that you know what a
CGI argument is and can recognise them in a URL. No doubt this is complicated
by Greenstone's "e" variable, which hides a lot of them.
As I mentioned in my original e-mail, there is a complete list of the
CGI arguments on the administration page of your Greenstone digital library
(go to the library home page, choose "Administration", then "arguments").
This is briefly mentioned in section 4.4 of the Greenstone User's Guide.
We'll keep your suggestions in mind for the next version of the manuals
(which won't be for a few months, unfortunately).
Regards,
Michael
However it is not easy to infere from the developer
guide.
In section 4.1 the language selection is mentioned, but it
is not clear the cgiarg configuration relation, it only seems to
refer to the configuration of the multiple selection of the language
box appearing in Preferences page.
Within the same section we have the "Page parameters and CGI
arguments" subsection which then refers to section 3.8 (Recepcionist)
where not all the options for the CGI arguments should be really shown,
as it says in 4.1. But there is only a example of a and p arguments.
The subsection on macro language also makes things
a bit more confusing, it barely mentions that "l" refers to
language
but in the frame of macros precedence.
Further in 4.1 there a slim hint but yet unclear when it says
"... the
l
CGI argument directly
corresponds to the l=
parameter in
the macro files."
I would suggest to include a table in section 3.8 will all CGI arguments
with a basic explanation for usage, it might be very helpful (just
in case
it has not been included for the "upcoming" gsdl 2.4x guides).
Thanks again,
A.B.

Hi Azael,
Did you try what I suggested in my previous answer? All you have to
do is add this one line:
cgiarg shortname=l argdefault=es
to the end of the main.cfg file in Greenstone's "etc" directory. It
doesn't get much easier than that!

Michael

Regarding this answer from
Michael,
Will this be the way to have the spanish version of the opening page
by
default? When I enter the gsdl I get the english version (from the
base.dm and
english.dm I suppose), and then have to go click Preferences to change
it
to spanish. However I do need to have the spanish version as the default
with the
same format as the english style (a new opening page will be next on
time for now is Ok the default format, but not the language).
Is this cgi setup the way, if so how can be done, or there is in fact
an easier way
to do it?
Diego, perhaps you have tried and can suggest some hints.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Diego,
I think you've answered your own question: you can set CGI argument
defaults in the main.cfg file. For example:
cgiarg shortname=l argdefault=es
would set the "l" variable (language) to "es" (Spanish).
There is a complete list of the CGI arguments in the administration
page of your Greenstone library.

Michael
