Hi,
you could try adding the "groupsize" option to your coolection's
collect.cfg file - this means that multiple imported documents are
stored in a single xml file in the archives directory.

Eg, for the mailing list archives example collection, we have
groupsize 200
which means 200 imported emails are stored in each archive file,
instead of each imported document having its own archive directory.
