Hi John
You can do this easily GLI. Fisrt, you should add Hierachy Classifier for Subject. Then you should enter metadata like this: Ireland|Connarcht|Galway (separate subject by using |); If you correctly create hierarchial classifier for subject, you could have browsing like this: Ireland Connarcht Galway Picture1/Document1 Picture2/Document2 ....... In Greenstone, I am using Dublin Core to catalogue a collection of photographs. In Dublin Core, subjects are not hierarchical. For example, the place Galway is in Connacht and Connacht is in Ireland. In Dublin Core, I can only list each element in a linear or flat fashion. Is there a metadata element set that will allow me to capture this relationship and is it possible to display such a hierarchy using a 'browsing classifier'.
In the future, I may wish to extract my metadata as MARC and import it into our library catalogue which is MARC based. I am comfortable with XSL and XML, so I am not anticipating that this will be much of a problem.
I chose Dublin Core because of its simplicity and ease of use. Should I consider other metadata sets?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Regards, John
