1. Since you are working on Windows, I will try installing the very
latest source at home on my Windows machine all over again this weekend.
It is indeed troubling if "ant prepare" is not recognised.
2. It is indeed build.xml (not web.xml) that is used when ant prepare
and ant install are run.
3. The build.xml that you need is the latest one from the SVN
repository, not an older one. If it so happens that it no longer has the
"update dirs" lines mentioned in the "troubleshooting" part of point 2
of the page
then ignore that bit. That page merely describes the way I managed to
install an older version of Greenstone 3 from SVN at home some weeks
ago. Things could well have changed since then, since even I have been
tinkering with the build.xml file recently.
Once I've tried installing the latest version again at home, assuming
it's successful, I will update that document and tell you.
4. Concerning VCVARS.BAT, it really is essential to have that file in
order to compile up Greenstone 3 on your Windows machine.
Your VCVARS.BAT may not be in the same location as where I found it or
where others here have found theirs to be. Therefore (if you have not
already done the following), can you search your C: for it - it should
be somewhere in your Visual Studio folder. Also check in your Vis C++ 6
CD just in case it was deleted by accident. Is your Vis C++ 6
installation incomplete perhaps?
I believe my sister has Vis Studio 6 at home on the computer I am trying
this out on. If you cannot find VCVARS.BAT, I will try and mail mine to
you, though you might have to find out the correct directory to place it
in on your end.
On an entirely separate matter: In the gs3-webservices-democlient
application, folder docs/HowToFiles, document
0InstallDemoClientInBrief.html has been corrected. To deploy web
services on Greenstone3 you type "soap-deploy-site" (not
soap-deploy-localsite as I had erroneously written there previously).
I will write as soon as I have any news (success or failure) about
installing the latest on Windows. Best of luck,
