Subject [greenstone-users] oidtype question
Hello,

I'd like to build a collection with easily recognisable urls, and
therefore I'd prefer it if the building process did not derive
identifiers from hashes. I read information about the various "-oidtype"
values that can be fed to import.pl, but unfortunately I can't find the
resource anymore.

The possible values of "oidtype" are, if I remember correctly, "hash",
"incremental", "assigned" or "dirname".
"incremental" means that documents are assigned incremental numbers, but
this method can only be used once and is not suitable if a collection is
to be extended at a later stage - is this correct?

What is "dirname"?

The collection I'm aiming at is actually exported from a MySQL database
which stores metadata and the filenames.
Ideally, I'd like to use the unique MySQL primary keys as identifiers in
the greenstone collection.

The records are exported from the MySQL database into a metadata.xml
file. Would it be possible to have import.pl accept a value of a
metadata field (say, "ID") as an identifier?

Thanks, and best regards,

Birgit
