duh! Sorry if I have wasted anyones time: I meant [srcicon] not [icon]
. [icon] is used to refer to the extracted text, or more exactly
[link][/link] which brings you to a page whose contents are determined
by the contents of
format DocumentText
which is usually set at [Text] - the extracted text. I have the
followign statement which gives me the document text [Text] followed
by the full size image, with the [Title] metadata:
format DocumentText "[Text]<br /><img title="[Title]"
src="/gsdl/collect/gsarch/index/assoc/[assocfilepath]/[Image]" />"

What I really meant was _srcicon_ .
Answering my own question; the image that _srcicon_ returns is derived
from the filename extension in basplug
my $srcicon = "_icon".$doc_ext."_";

The next question I must ask myself is does my plugin pass the right
extension back to Basplug? I suspect not.
