Doh! I guessed something like this would be the solution but was looking
at the Makefile in the gsdl directory and getting confused. Once I
changed the Makefile in the gsdl/packages directory it got further along
in the compilation process. It did hit a snag further down the line but I
won't be able to check until I get home from work tonight since I did the
gmake as I was literally by the door leaving. I imagine the solution is
something similar. Hopefully there won't be any version inconsistencies
after I do all this.

Good luck, sounds like it could be a bit of a nightmare. I've played
around with Greenstone several times and this is the first time the
install has given me trouble. Been quite nice and stable for me
otherwise.
